New Content [Suggestion to Live Team]
Now with more and more of the lore for GW2 being released and lots of speculation going around, as well as the Live Team in effect to keep the OGW populous happy. Perhaps they can introduce some new content that connects the 2 games in lore.
My suggestion is that a few quests can be added that will take us to those desolate remnants of Orr to fill some lore in to players. As well as it may give players some perspective or insight on how The Cataclysm played out, and how the remaining islands were ravaged by the magic used to destroy the marching Charr army at Arah.
Similar to the BMP, where perhaps it is a book (each page contains lore) that lets you see first hand the destruction that was caused. As well as how The Cataclysm turned its victims into the undead army that resides in Kryta.
for more information on this important piece of lore (that is a large part of GW2 as well) visit: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Cataclysm (warning contains spoilers)

I don't think anything of this scale would be attempted until AFTER GW2 is released. Keep in mind the live team is about 12 people large, and they themselves have said that they can't do anything the scale of new explorable missions/areas.
But I think a BMP based on events leading up to GW2 would be more appropriate for GW2 and not GW1. I hate to burst your bubble but GW1 is no longer in any meaningful development besides maintaining the game and doing minor changes such as the PvP change and adding things to holiday events, there just isn't much more the live team can do with the existing team size and current GW engine.

I hope you're not implying that GW will have any remotely serious PvE content addition after GW2 is released.

This stuff the OP is requesting will take place in later years from EotN, namely in the novels. Lore wise, of course. So there's no chance our characters will take part into something that would happen in around a hundred years.

No, as I stated later any additional add ons would be more appropriate for GW2.

... why shouldnt there be any add ons for GW1 ... true GW2 makes more sense but if the player base for GW1 remains big enough to justify a mini 'expansion' why not ...
In relation to the OP suggestion, i would like to suggest what i also suggested on GW2guru, mainly, a Writer NPC, this writer would have one (or a couple) of books that would work as a mission chain (instanced like other books) to let us experience event leading towards GW2 ...
These books could well come out with the release of the Fall of Ascalon book ... but ingame story tells some stuff just after defeat of the Great Destroyer ... while the Fall of Ascalon is leading in GW2 (atleast how i understood it) ...
Now im not the lifeteam planner nor GW2 planner, but seeing XTH is being adressed ... the Event system automated (and events possibly updated, atleast new mask) ... would mean that nov / dec / jan / feb / mar ... would give the life team (with some help from main team) about 6mounths to shell out a mission chain in the form of a Writer NPC (like historian), to tell us some future events

anet will probably add some pve content right before gw2's beta to promote the sequel and shake hands "thanks for your loyalty and here's the new shit" with their fanbase. the added content may tell us something about the 250 years period, but anet is technically handicapped and i wouldn't expect anything bigger than the missions of the bmp.
every gw player will move on to the sequel if anet delivers (and my expectations are high in this regard), so i wouldn't expect anything after the next bigger pve content update.

Nah, I think they realize that when GW2 is released, most players from GW1 are going to switch. Those that don't, why would they encourage them to wait around a while? The "handshake" content is going to be more along the lines of rewarding already existing Guild Wars players in the GW2 release (HoH).
All they'll do is maintain guild wars 1 for a couple years after guild wars 2 has been released, and when the numbers dwindle so much that to do a dungeon is near impossible to do because you can't find the players for it, guild wars will completely be dropped.

Next year is a different story of course, we got a whole fresh new year. I would really like to spend next year starting to continue the story and lore of guild wars 1 in to the future. All the lore that we've developed to gw2 is really awesome and it would be cool to see some of that stuff in gw1 and see how it plays out.
